I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (FMF) of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). I am also affiliated with the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Mechanics (IMFM).
I am an algebraist with additional background in number theory. The central theme of my research is the interaction of arithmetic properties and algebraic structures. My interest in weighted automata has led me to also connect with the theoretical computer science (automata theory) community.
My research includes the study of non-unique factorizations of elements in noncommutative rings and in cluster algebras; arithmetic inverse results for weighted finite automata (noncommutative rational series), for semigroup representations, for D-finite series, and for Mahler series; and monoid-theoretical approaches to the study of direct-sum decompositions of modules.
Before finding my permanent home in Ljubljana in 2023, I was the professor of algebra at the University of Graz (Austria), as head of the Algebra and Number Theory research group. As a postdoc, I held a FWF Erwin Schrödinger Postdoctoral Fellowship, visiting the University of Waterloo (Canada) and Dartmouth College (USA).
