Daniel Smertnig
Daniel Smertnig

I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (FMF) of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). I am also affiliated with the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Mechanics (IMFM).

My main research area is in noncommutative algebra, in particular, ring theory, where I am particularly interested in the interaction of algebraic and arithmetic properties. This includes an interest in weighted automata (noncommutative rational series) as well as D-finite and Mahler series.

Before coming to Ljubljana, I was the professor of algebra at the University of Graz (Austria), as head of the Algebra and Number Theory research group. As a postdoc, I held a FWF Erwin Schrödinger Postdoctoral Fellowship, visiting the University of Waterloo (Canada) and Dartmouth College (USA).

My Curriculum Vitae.

PhD students: Mara Pompili (Graz), Daniel Z. Vitas (Ljubljana).

Editor of Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society.
